Please review your \n\ntraining history on your online portal\, for how many TSKUK Course stamps you require to be eligible to grade for certain grades. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScott has been practicing martial arts since the age of 5\, however\, he started his karate career proper in 1986 under the instruction of Howard Milson\, a senior member of Kodokai and one of the very few 5th dans in the UK at the time. Scott trained hard with Howard and Kato Sensei and gained shodan in 1992. After travelling to Japan with Kato Sensei in 1993\, Scott started university in Staffordshire and trained on a daily basis with him. \nDuring this time he assisted Kato Sensei teaching around the UK and Europe. Scott also competed regularly; winning\, both in kata and kumite\, the National Championships five times\, European Championships three times\, and the 1996 JKA World Championships in Moscow. Building on this success\, Scott travelled once more to Japan in 1997 and started to train full time at the JKA (Asai fraction) Hombu dojo. \nUnder constant pressure from the instruction of Asai\, Abe\, Yahara\, Kagawa\, Isaka\, Yamaguchi etc\, Scott went from strength to strength and in 1998 was asked to enter the instructor’s course. Unfortunately\, an injured knee prevented this\, so after considerable rehabilitation\, Scott\, along with Yasuhisa Inada\, entered the course in 2000 and became the first instructor’s course class of the newly formed Japan Karate Shotorenmei. Two intensive years later\, Scott graduated from the course and became the fifth non-Japanese person ever to do so (JKA/JKS). \nFeeling it was time to move on and encouraged by the hombu dojo to develop JKS karate\, Scott moved to Ireland. From 2002 until 2013 Scott was the Technical Director of the JKS GB & Ireland and the Chief Instructor of JKS Ireland’s Hombu Dojo. In that time the group grew from 4 clubs to 120 clubs\, making it the biggest single style group in the British Isles. His own club also grew from the initial 8 members that showed up on the first night\, to over 500 members and four full time instructors. \nScott is the bestselling author of Karate Stupid and Karate Clever.  He is a founder member of Hombu Dojo Karate International and Chief Technical Director of the group.

He soon showed his potential in Karate as he progressed through his Kyu grades reaching his black belt 1st Dan at the age of 13. During this time he trained hard under the guidance of his father Sensei John Best winning many competitions which led to him being selected for the Karate Union of Great Britain England squad (KUGB). He reflects about these very hard training sessions. \nThese sessions were a test of physical and mental endurance\, Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda 9th Dan and Sensei Andy Sherry 9th Dan would put us through our paces. It was essential to train with the correct martial attitude spirit and technique nothing but your best would do. \nHis first international event was in Ireland where he competed in a team friendly winning all of his fights. This led to a squad selection in which he was picked to compete in the European Championships held in Turkey 1984. George went to these Championships with the will to win. This was not over looked by squad coach Sensei Andy Sherry as George was asked to line up and fight in the senior team kumite squad the very next day. \nIt was an honour to be in the starting line up for the England senior team at the age of 16. \nThis was the start of things to come he trained harder in order to develop his Kata and Kumite. This earned him the prestigious title of under 21 British Shotokan Cup Individual Kata & Kumite Grand Champion 1985. George went on to dominate the category winning the Kumite event another two consecutive years 1987/1988. \nGeorge is renowned for his fast kicking techniques. Anyone who has seen him in competition or trained with him on courses can appreciate the speed and power in which he can deliver a multitude of techniques. His distancing timing and body movement are phenomenal making him one of the best Karate exponents England has produced. \nWith this unstoppable attitude George competed in the European Championships held in Sunderland England\, taking the European Kumite title in 1986 and again in 1987 for the second consecutive time. Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda presented George with the most outstanding competitor award. \nGeorge has also competed in open style tournaments winning the Senior Individual English Karate Governing Board British All Styles Kumite Championships\, (EKGB) no more than three times beating all comers from a multitude of styles.\nThis led to the build up of the World Shotokan Cup held in Brisbane\, Australia 1988 where George competed against the World’s best. \nGeorge fought Japans Masao Kagawa twice in these championships. The former Japan Karate Association Grand Champion was beaten convincingly by George both times. The first confrontation was in the individual Kumite and the second time in the team Kumite event. \nGeorge was to take the bronze medal at these championships and the British team came second to Japan. England were to regain the title from Japan again in the 1990 World Shotokan Cup. \nWith George’s dedication commitment and hard training\, England have won the European Team Kumite Championships no more than five times and the World Championships twice making England one of the most successful Karate nations in the World. \nGeorge has a new organisation called Hasha International Karate\, Hasha Karate England has made its mark competing on the world circuit along with senior Hasha Instructors. \n\n\nSensei Alan Parrish 7th Dan\n\n\n\nSensei Alan Parrish started training Shotokan Karate in 1974 in Hadleigh\, Essex and has been teaching professionally since 1994. Sensei Alan is a former multiple Regional and National KUGB Champion and was a member of the ITKF National Squad for over 10 years.
